Elite Athlete Fund
The University of Bath aims to be the best environment to enable academic and athletic potential. To optimise the transition from pre-elite level to sustained elite success, Team Bath can offer financial support to University of Bath students who are recognised within the Breakthrough Programme and are selected for international events.
The Elite Athlete Fund is made possible by generous donations from the University of Bath Alumni.
Eligibility
To be eligible for the Elite Athlete Fund, individuals must:
- Have been accepted onto the Breakthrough Programme.
- Be completing a minimum of 30 credits studying at the University of Bath.
- Not be serving a period of ineligibility as a result of an anti-doping rule violation.
- Nor have been found guilty of misconduct according to Student Regulation 7 – Disciplinary Regulations for Students.
Selection criteria
Funding will be awarded as follows:
75% of funding costs (up to £750) for Elite Level Competition:
- Senior European Championships, Senior World Cups, Senior World Championships, Commonwealth Games, Olympic and Paralympic Games.
50% of funding costs (up to £500) for Performance Level Competition:
- Junior European Championships, Junior World Championships, FISU Registered Events (World University Games and Championships).
25% of funding costs (up to £250) for Development Level Competition:
- National Championships, International Selection Competitions, other international competition.
The criteria is used as an indicative guide only. Meeting the criteria is not a guarantee that an application will be successful. Team Bath reserves the right to amend the criteria at any time.
Application process
To apply for the Elite Athlete Fund, individuals must provide information and evidence detailing how they meet the competition criteria by completing an online form (click here to access).
Selection process
Applications will be sent to a selection panel of:
- Director of Sport.
- Deputy Director of Sport.
- Head of Student Performance Sport.
- Performance Sport Officer.
Non-voting independent advisors may be consulted.
Individuals will be emailed the outcome of their applications following the panel feedback.
Terms and conditions
The funding will cover a contribution towards the student’s total expenses such as accommodation and travel costs. The funding will not cover any training costs, equipment, kit or food and drink expenses.
Applications must be made before attending the event.
Applications must include a selection letter and/or written support from a University of Bath or National Governing Body coach.
All athletes will be required to pay the costs upfront and then any money pledged to an athlete can be claimed back upon presentation of relevant receipts and a media report. Without proof of these, athletes cannot redeem any money.
Successful applications will be required to liaise with the Team Bath Press Office regarding photographs, reports and press releases on the Team Bath website and other media outlets as applicable. This information may also be used in University Alumni publications.
To receive their award, athletes must supply:
- A minimum of five photos. These should be of the individual / team in competition.
- A detailed report of their experience and results at the event (150-500 words).
- Receipts of payment for the event within one month of the event (receipts received after this will not be eligible for the fund to be claimed).
We very much appreciate your help in this regard, the more publicity the more enthusiastic potential donors to the fund will become.
