Anika Rabi’s medal momentum and hard work rewarded as Team Bath judoka is named as latest Rengen Athlete of the Month

Judoka Anika Rabi’s rapid improvement in competition results has been rewarded after she was named as the Team Bath Rengen Athlete of the Month for March.
Rabi, one of more than 160 student-athletes supported in their dual careers by the Student Performance Sport Breakthrough Programme, won her first senior British Championships medal in December – bronze in the women’s -70kg division.
She followed that up with silver at February’s English Open before winning gold at the following month’s BUCS Judo Championships, beating the judoka ranked number five and eight in the UK along the way.
Chemistry for Drug Discovery student Rabi, who trains with Team Bath Judo in the Sports Training Village dojo, was a key member of the women’s team that took overall gold for Bath at BUCS, winning all her fights over the course of a busy weekend.
Adam Hall, High Performance Judo Coach at the University of Bath, said: “Congratulations to Anika on her performances and award. This is a result of her consistent hard work, determination and organisation.”
Rabi follows GB wheelchair fencer Susie Seddon-Cowell and British Athletics 800m indoor champion Justin Davies as winner of the new Athlete of the Month award, which celebrates the achievements, commitment and dedication of student-athletes on the Breakthrough Programme.
Both the award and the programme – which provides bespoke support designed to help student-athletes maximise their academic and sporting potential – are supported by Team Bath partners Rengen.
