University of Bath students dominated the 2025 BUCS Judo Championships, coming away from Walsall with the overall team title after a tremendous 21-medal haul which included both men’s and women’s team gold.

Gergo Berendi, Sam Elliott, Elliot Wilkinson, Charlie Bourton-Cole and Ollie Isaacs made up the successful men’s team, while Evie Halvey-Jacobs, Anika Rabi and Kaitlin Chapple-Allen combined to secure the women’s title.

Chemistry for Drug Discovery student Rabi won women’s -70kg gold, one of six medals claimed by Bath students in the Dan grade section. Adam Vosper won -60kg silver and bronze went to Berendi (men’s -66kg), Elliott (men’s -73kg), Yi Ci Lien (women’s -52kg) and Halvey-Jacobs (women’s -63kg), the latter beating Lydia Pearson in an all-Bath battle.

There were also fifth-placed finishes for Chapple-Allen (women’s -70kg) and Wilkinson (men’s -81kg).

Bath judoka dominated the Kyu grade section as Ralf Callaway (-73kg), Bowen Davies (-81kg), Ollie Isaacs (-90kg) and Ammar Mir (-66kg) all won gold in the men’s events, the latter beating Jack Dallas in an all-Bath final. There were two medals in the women’s -63kg division too, silver for Rebecca Clough and bronze for Rebecca King.

The Novice section saw Roxie Stacey (women’s -57kg), Oscar Biltcliffe (men’s -60kg), Joe Patient (men’s -90kg) and Jack Rogge (men’s +90kg) all strike gold. Grace King won women’s +78kg silver and Alex Walker took men’s -81kg bronze.

BUCS success continues an excellent few weeks for the Team Bath judo programme, following on from the five medals won at the English Open in February.
