Marcus Wyatt and Matt Weston lead British Skeleton 1-2 at Sigulda World Cup as Bath-based sliders head into Christmas in style

Marcus Wyatt and Matt Weston were top of the tree in the last IBSF Skeleton World Cup before Christmas as the University of Bath-based sliders won gold and silver respectively in Sigulda, Latvia.
Wyatt produced the fastest starts and best times across both runs to secure his first individual victory of the 2024-25 season in a time of 1:39.51. British Skeleton team-mate Weston was just a quarter of a second behind after two equally consistent performances.
The duo have now won 10 medals between them already during the first five events of the pre-Olympic season – two gold, five silver and four bronze.
Craig Thompson was 12th in Friday’s race having produced the fifth-fastest time in the second run.
The women’s race saw Amelia Coltman secure a place on the wider podium for the second week running as she placed fifth in 1:43.24. She was joined in the top 10 by Freya Tarbit and Tabby Stoecker, who were separated by just one-hundredth of a second in eighth and ninth respectively.
The Skeleton World Cup season resumes on Friday 3rd January in Winterberg, Germany.
The University of Bath is home to the UK’s only outdoor push-start training track and British Skeleton athletes also do their strength and conditioning work at the Team Bath Sports Training Village. Click here to find out more.
