Quadruple-chasing Wigan Warriors prepare for final push with three-day training camp at University of Bath

01 October 2024

Wigan Warriors visited the University of Bath for an intensive three-day training camp as their bid for a historic quadruple trophy success approaches its climax.

The Cherry and Whites, the most successful club in the history of world rugby league, arrived at the Team Bath Sports Training Village fresh from retaining the Betfred Super League Leaders’ Shield to go alongside the World Club Challenge trophy and the Challenge Cup already secured this year.

They are now looking to defend the Super League title and, ahead of their semi-final against Leigh Leopards on Saturday 5th October, took the opportunity to enjoy three focussed days at the University’s renowned sporting facilities.

As well as rugby sessions on the athletics infield pitch, the 30-strong squad – featuring some of the world’s leading players – also did strength and conditioning in the high-performance gym, contact sessions in the group exercise studio, and recovery in the hydro pool and Olympic-sized swimming pool.

Both Team Bath and Wigan Warriors are longstanding partners of Matrix Fitness, with the state-of-the-art, 1,536 square metre gym facility at the Sports Training Village having undergone a £450,000 equipment upgrade this summer.

Warriors are the latest leading sports institution to stage a training camp at the University of Bath, joining the likes of the Great Britain rugby league squad; England (men and women), Australia and New Zealand in rugby union; South Africa and New Zealand in netball; and a host of countries in various Olympic and Paralympic sports.
