Team Bath hosts biggest Strength in Depth team fitness challenge yet as 1,200 competitors test strength and endurance at transformed STV

06 February 2024

The world’s biggest team fitness event returned to the University of Bath over an action-packed weekend as 1,200 competitors pushed their strength and endurance to the limit in the SiD Origins Final 2024.

It is the eighth time the Strength in Depth event has taken place at the Team Bath Sports Training Village, which this year welcomed a record-breaking field of 100 teams of 12 for a two-day showdown watched by a sell-out crowd of more than 2,000 spectators.

The multi-purpose Sports Hall and indoor tennis courts were transformed into giant fitness arenas which staged synchronised challenges including dumbbell snatches, rope climbs, worm squats, box jumps, pull-ups and handstand walks.

The outdoor athletics track also hosted gruelling sandbag carries and kettlebell relays, while both speed and endurance were tested in the Olympic-sized swimming pool.

At the end of the nine rounds, it was Worcester-based Blueprint CrossFit who took home the £3,500 first prize as they pipped defending champions Motion Storm – representing CrossFit Surbiton – by just six points.

NewWave Black, from Cobham in Surrey, completed the top three as two-time champions Jolly Sailor Invincibles of Cornwall had to settle for fourth place on this occasion. The top local team in fifth were The Abbey, one of two teams representing CrossFit Bath.

Each of the 90 teams competing in the main draw at SiD Origins had to earn their place during a qualification campaign. An additional 10 teams contested an Invitational event, which was won by JST Compete for a second successive year.

All of the teams were comprised of seven males, five females and a Masters athlete of each gender, one of whom was over 40 years of age and the other over 35 years.
