Sporting scholar Tim Nurse helps GB Hockey U21s enjoy strong finish to Invitational Tournament in Madrid

University of Bath sporting scholar Tim Nurse helped Great Britain Hockey U21 men to a fifth-placed finish at the 8-Nations Invitational Tournament in Madrid, Spain.
It was a tough start to the competition for GB as they lost their three Pool A matches against Belgium (5-2), Austria (1-0) and eventual winners Germany (7-1).
However, their fortunes improved in the ranking phase and following a goalless draw against the Netherlands, GB went on to win 3-2 in a penalty shootout before a 2-1 victory over India clinched fifth place overall.
“This was a very enjoyable tournament where lots of improvements were made over the week building towards the Europeans,” said MJ Church Ambassador Nurse, who studies Sports Performance and is supported by a King Sporting Scholarship.
The 2019 EuroHockey Junior Championships are taking place in Valencia, Spain from July 13-21.
