Marcus Daniell and Brian Baker look to build on super start at US Open
Team Bath MCTA Tennis player Marcus Daniell will be looking to build on an impressive start to his US Open campaign when he returns to action at Flushing Meadows on Friday.
Daniell and partner Brian Baker were in fine form as they beat Malek Jaziri and Hans Podlipnik-Castillo 6-3 6-2 in the first round of the men’s doubles on Wednesday, taking less than an hour to wrap up the win.
Next up for the New Zealand/United States combination is a match against fellow unseeded duo Rohan Bopanna and Frederik Nielsen of India and Denmark respectively. That is scheduled to be the second match on Court 6, starting around 6pm BST.
Daniell – coached by Dave Sammel, Ian MacDonald and Bob Smith – is making his first appearance at the US Open while Baker has played in the men’s doubles four times before, reaching the last 16 in 2013.
Meanwhile, the Nike Junior International Bath, which has been taking place at the Sports Training Village throughout the week, reaches its conclusion on Saturday.
It will be a busy day of U14 and U16 finals on the indoor courts as some of the world’s most talented teenage tennis players bid to collect the big prizes. Admission is free for spectators.
