Bath students among the tries at Student Rugby League Four Nations tournament

University of Bath students James Exley, Fraser Robinson and Morgan Evans helped Wales finish runners-up to England in the Student Rugby League Four Nations.

Gavin Grant, Jamie Park and Rob Wilson were also in the Scotland squad for the tournament, which took place in Dublin last week.

Robinson – who, like Chemical Engineering Masters student Exley, is supported by the Alumni Elite Athlete Support Fund – started in all three of his country’s matches.

Wales began with a 20-12 victory over host nation Ireland and then recorded a 34-7 win over a Scotland side captained by Mechanical Engineering Masters student Grant.

Civil and Architectural Engineering student Robinson scored a try in that game to set up a winner-takes-all encounter with England, which was hard fought but saw Wales go down 42-26 to the defending champions.

Evans, who is studying Mathematics, started that game and Exley was among the substitutes.

Scotland, who lost 56-6 to England in the opening game, had to settle for the wooden spoon after a frustrating 20-8 defeat to Ireland in their final game.

Grant rampaged 35 yards to score a consolation try in that game and was joined in the Scotland squad by Molecular and Cellular Biology student Wilson and Park, who studies Natural Sciences.

Chris Abbott, Rugby League Co-ordinator at the University of Bath, said: “As a club, we are all hugely proud of the six lads that have been representing their country at the Student Four Nations.

“This achievement is a great reflection on the hard work we put in and the success that the University Rugby League programme has had in developing players.”
