Home of champions

The University of Bath Sports Training Village is home to Pentathlon GB‘s Olympic athletes and the Wheelchair Fencing National Training Centre, the long-term training base for reigning double Paralympic champion Dimitri Coutya and Tokyo 2020 gold-medallist Piers Gilliver.

They, along with team-mate Oliver Lam-Watson, came home with an incredible 19 medals between them from the Tokyo 2020 and Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

Under the coaching of Peter Rome, Piers – who has been based at the STV since 2015 – became Britain’s first Paralympic medallist for 24 years when he won Category A epee silver at Rio 2016. Dimitri joined Piers at Bath in 2017 and was crowned as World Champion that year in both Category B epee and foil. Both went on to win world titles in 2019.

The British Fencing squad are based in the Wheelchair Fencing National Training Centre, a spacious and purpose-built facility in the Sports Training Village which was officially opened in December 2022. Click here to find out more.
